Treatment Costs
Although NHS orthodontic treatment is free to qualifying patients under 18, charges may be made for replacement of lost or damaged braces or retainers.
NHS patients are only seen on referral.
Dentists refer patients to the Central Referral Centre who then send referrals to us. We will contact you to arrange an appointment after we have received a referral from your dentist. The NHS has strict guidelines on the availability of orthodontic treatment. We are commissioned by the NHS to treat patients under the age of 18 with a certain severity of orthodontic need. The level of severity is judged by an “Index of Treatment Need” (IOTN), with a score of 3.6 or higher necessary to be eligible for free NHS treatment, however, due to high demand priority will be given to IOTN scores of 4 and higher.
Some children will not qualify for NHS treatment. If this is the case, we will explain the options for private treatment.

We ask that you are punctual for your appointments and follow advice carefully as to how to look after you braces and keep your teeth and gums healthy. The practice is not responsible for any damage caused to the teeth by the unsupervised wear of braces. Repeated failure to attend appointments, excessive damage caused to appliances, or failure to maintain an adequate standard of oral hygiene may result in us having to stop treatment.
All patients attending Regent Dental Care have the right to be treated with respect and dignity. The Practice staff have equal rights. Violent or verbally abusive patients and accompanying persons will not be tolerated and will result in immediate cessation of treatment for the patient.
If you are unable to keep your appointment please let us know as soon as possible so that we can give the appointment to someone else.
As well as wasting NHS time, missed appointments will lengthen your treatment, increasing your risk of tooth decay.
